Irish Step Dancers of New Mexico Bylaws

Albuquerque, New Mexico

1. The Irish Step Dancers of New Mexico is a nonprofit organization in the State of New Mexico. The organization's Employer Identification Number is 22-3873643.

2. The purpose of the organization is to provide support and encouragement in both performances and competitions in the art of Traditional Irish Dance. This is accomplished by promoting physical fitness; cultural education, diversity, and acceptance; team and individual goals and accomplishments; enjoyment of the dance; and acceptable social behaviors.

3. The organization will function under the leadership of an elected governing body comprised of a President up to 5 Vice-presidents, Treasurer, and Secretary. Officers of the organization are elected annually from the membership in the month of October by simple majority vote of the members attending the meeting. Each family with at least one student currently enrolled in dance class, with dues paid, has one vote. Officers do not have a vote in addition to their assumed family vote. The Secretary must advise all members via email and public notice of the date, time and place of the election meeting. Nominations will be made during the monthly board meeting in August and the persons so nominated must indicate a willingness to accept the position if so elected.

Elected officers are as follows:

  • PRESIDENT: presides at meetings, appoints committees and represents the organization.

  • VICE PRESIDENT: The 1st Vice President acts for the President in his/her absence and succeeds to the position of President in the event of the vacancy of the office of President. Each Vice President 1 -5 will preside over the committees established by the President of the organization.

  • TREASURER: manages the finances of the organization, including a bank account requiring authorized signatures of the President, 1st Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Each check requires two of the above signatures. The Treasurer will provide a financial statement at the annual election meeting and a Treasurer's report each month.

  • SECRETARY: records the minutes of the meetings and manages correspondence of the organization.

4. Membership is by family and includes the parents/guardians of each dancer. Paying membership dues per family annually entitles a member to vote on any business that is brought before the organization. The amount of these dues will be voted upon during the annual General Meeting.

5. General membership meetings will be held monthly and will coincide with a visit from the Professional Dance Instructor. Other meetings may be called at the President's discretion.

6. Income shall be limited to that necessary to defray the expense normally incurred in implementing the purpose of the organization. This income shall be determined by evaluating the previous year's expenses and creating an operating budget for the following year to be voted upon during the annual General Meeting to be held in October. Acceptance/no acceptance of this budget will be determined by a simple majority vote of those members in attendance at this annual meeting. Any expenditures shall require the approval of the membership.

7. The bylaws will be reviewed every three years during the annual General Meeting to be held in October of each year. Any amendments to the bylaws require a vote of two thirds of the total membership present at the meeting.

8. Committees exist at the discretion of the President to perform specific functions and are dissolved at the conclusion of an assignment or with the annual election, whichever comes first. Committees do not have the power to make financial commitments for the organization.
